South-West monsoon to be active during June 13-18

Thiruvananthapuram, Jun 12 : The South-West monsoon will be active in Kerala between June 13 and 18.

Due to strengthening of monsoon current, rainfall activity in Kerala is expected to increase. Heavy rainfall (seven cm or more in 24 hours) is expected at one or two places in Kerala during the same period, according to MeT office here today.

However, due to anticipated active monsoon conditions, further increase in rainfall activity is expected due to strengthening of wind from west/south-west over Lakshadweep and Kerala coast from June 13 to 17.

Rainfall is expected at most places more than 75 per cent of rain reporting stations during the period of June 13 to 17.

Heavy rainfall of seven cm or more in the next 24 hrs as well as very heavy rainfall of 13 cm or more is likely in about 26 per cent to 50 per cent of the raingauge stations in Kerala in the same period.

Strong onshore winds from westerly direction with speed occasionally reaching 45 to 55 kmph is likely along and off Kerala coast and over Lakshadweep area during the next 24 hours.
