The record-breaking pookkalam would occupy 20,000 sq ft area and was all set to be the largest floral carpet ever arranged, M.K. Abdul Salam of Globerz Entertainment, an event management group, said at a press conference here on Monday.

He said that Elemecs Wedding Centre here was the main sponsor of the event while Nikshan Electronics here would co-sponsor it.

He said that 20 tonnes of flowers would be used for the floral carpet and nearly 1,500 youths, including students and cadets from the National Cadet Corps and National Service Society and college clubs, would participate in the event. The estimated cost of the massive pookkalam was Rs.16 lakh, he said adding that Guinness Book of Records authorities had been intimated to make arrangements for assessing the floral carpet.
