Kochi: Kerala police has detained twenty one Wahdat-e-Islami activists who were found holding a meeting under suspicious circumstances at Muthalamada on the Kerala-Tamil Nadu border area.

Those detained included two former activists of the banned outfit SIMI. However they were later released as the police could not recover any incriminating material or information from them, ?S Ananthakrishnan,??IGP (Intelligence) of Kerala told TOI here.

They were removed under Section 161 of CrPC and were released later on bail, E Divakaran, ?Palakkad SP said. The inter-state intelligence wing and the police officials of Tamil Nadu had also questioned them. But there was no evidence to detain them further and they were let off, the SP said. They were known to be conducting religious classes, the police sources said.

Among those arrested 20 were from Coimbatore while one was from Chennai. The two former SIMI activists among them were Saed Abdul Rahman and Saed Muhammed Bukhari, the Kollankode SI Sreedharan said.
