Thiruvananthapuram, Jun 14 : About 90 per cent women members of three lakh national saving agents in the country are dissatisfied with various suggestions by the 'Committee on Comprehensive Review of National Saving Fund.' According to State National Savings Agents here today, "recommendation of the 'Committee on Comprehensive Review of National Saving Fund' to reduce commission payable to Mahila Pradhan Agents from four to one per cent will affect lives of about three lakh agents in the country." A panel report in this regard was submitted by RBI Deputy Governor Ms Shyamala Gopinath to Union Finance Minister Pranab Mukherjee a few days ago, they said.In a memorandum to Kerala Chief Minister Oommen Chandy, Association President Annama John has urged him to take up the matter with the Union Finance Minister not to accept the suggestion to reduce the commission of the agents.
"National Savings provide livelihood to about three lakh agents with 90 per cent of them being women who have been propagating the message of thrift in the huts of hamlets and slums of cities," the memorandum said.
They also requested the Union Finance Minister to intervene in this matter and take steps to protect interest of agents for the smooth functioning of National Savings.
