Idukki, Kerala, May 29:Small cracks and presence of rocky substances have been found at Mullaperiyar Dam by a team of scientists from Kerala Forest Research Institute (KFRI) at Thrissur.According to sources in the dam office here today, the team had already started a preliminary study for the Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) of the dam.
The team would also look into environmental impact on the region in connection with the construction of a new dam for which a site was identified 614 metres below the existing structure.
A Central Team of scientists from Central Soil and Materials Research Station (CSMRS) has also began the Remote Operating Vehicle (ROV) tests at Mullaperiyar Dam.
