SW monsoon active over Kerala

Thiruvananthapuram, Jun 14 : The South West Monsoon, which has become active again over Kerala, has claimed 46 lives till today, besides inflicting heavy loss to standing crops and damage to houses and other properties.

Two people were killed in Kannur District in the torrential rains in the last 24 hours, sources told UNI.

As many as 4,334 people are now lodged in 14 relief camps in Alappuzha, they said.

The total loss to standing crops and damages to houses and other properties till today was estimated at Rs 36.99 crore.

Standing crops in about 51.7 hectares of land were destroyed in the last 24 hours, which amounted to a loss of Rs 46.91 lakhs, they said. The total agriculture loss has been estimated at Rs 18.11 crore.

As many as nine houses were completely damaged and 153 houses partially destroyed in the rains, they said and added the loss was put up at Rs 14.57 lakhs.
