Oil companies' decision force AI to cancel flights

Kochi, May 27 : With the decision of Oil Companies to reduce the quota of aviation spirit to Air India because of non- payment of dues, the Air India was forced to cancel many of its flights operating from the three airports in the state due to fuel shortage.

The immediate decision of rationing fuel by the oil companies disarrayed the operation of Air India flights in the state, resulting in cancellation of four flights today.

According to the Airline sources, they had already cancelled flight no AI 519, Kochi-Bangazlore, Flight night IS 411 Kochi-Sharja, flight no AI 511 Thiruvananthapuram-Chennai and flight no IX 337 Kozhikode-Muscut, due to the scarcity of fuel.

However, the Air India was trying to accommodate the passengers in other flights to avoid hardships to passengers, the sources said, adding the passengers who had booked for Bangalore would be accomomdated to their Agathi-Kochi-Bangalore flight.

If the Oil Companies continued the rationing system, they would be forced to re-schedule many of their flights, which would force them to operate many flights to single operations, instead of operating flights to a single destination, the sources added.
