School Principal's house attacked by miscreants:

Kannur, Kerala, Jun 24: The house of the Principal of S N Vidhya Mandir school at Thalap in Kannur district, which is in the midst of a controversy over allegedly implemnting dress code for girls, was attacked by unidentified miscreants at early hours today.

Three Muslim girl students who were suspended in this connection later left the school following insistance by the Principal that they should wear only short sleeved salwar kameez.

Police said the miscreants damaged two window panes of the house of Principal Mrs Deepika Jayadas, at 0010 hrs by pelting stones.

Ms Jayadas told UNI that the school was functioining since 1980 and more than 2,000 students, including girls, were studying in the school.

The CBSE school in this northern district of Kerala kicked up the controversy when it asked the girl students, who were wearing salwar kameez with long sleeves, as part of the uniform, to change to half sleeves.

Jumaina, a tenth standard girl student, and Nufsin and Shahanas, both studying Plus Two, had reportedly sought TC from the school citing the reason that the school authorities were not allowing them to continue to wear the uniform in accordance with their religious faith.

The school authorites had suspended the three students upto June 30 for wearing long sleeve salwar kameez. However, there was no restriction in the school over using the skarf.
