A meeting of District Collectors inaugurated by chief minister Oommen Chandy discussed the issues connected with landless tribals and problems of people at Moolampalli where land had been acquired for the Vallarpadam Container Terminal Project at Kochi.
Addressing a press conference after the meeting, state Revenue Minister Thiruvanachoor Radhakrishnan said as many as 6037 tribal families would be given land in the next 100 days.
Radhakrishnan said beneficiaries had already been identified and preparations for distribution of land to landless tribals under the Forest Rights Act were in final stages.
It has been decided to assign a minimum of one acre and a maximum of 10 acres, he said.
The government would give priority to resolve the problems faced by landless people who were agitating for land at Chengara estate in Pathanmthitta district, Radhakrishnan said, adding the government plan was to come out with a comprehensive rehabilitation package for the people of Chengara.
The chief minister would visit Moolampali in Kochi to work out a detailed package to help the people who were displaced following the commissioning of the container project.
Steps would be taken to ease the shortage of sand for construction purposes. With a view to increasing sand availability, as a first step it has been decided to conduct sand audit in six rivers in the state, he said.
