Hindu outfit seeks compensation from LIC

Thiruvananthapuram, May 30 : Demanding Rs one lakh as compensation from the LIC to the families of the victims of the Sabarimala Pullumedu tragedy, the Hindu Aikyavedi today staged a protest dharna in front of the LIC office here.

In a press release, Aikyavedi State General Secretary E S Biju said the LIC collects Rs 25 lakh as an insurance premium from the Travancore Devaswom Board (TDB) every year.

But, it failed to provide compensation to the victim's families in time, he added.

As the TDB collects this money as various forms of offerings from the devotees. This money should be used for the benefits of pilgrims, he said.

The agitation was in protest against the denial of social justice and compensation benefits to the families of the 102 pilgrims and other pilgrims who died in various accidents at Pampa and Sabarimala during the previous festival seasons, he said.
