Emergency prisoners seek freedom fighter's status, pension

Kozhikode, Jun 23: The National Emergency Victimized Patriotics Forum (NEVPF) today urged the government to consider emergency prisoners and its victims as freedom fighters of the country.

Talking to reporters here, NEVPF President R Mohandas and General Secretary Vatakara Vijayan demanded pensionary benefits for the victims of the internal emergency in 1975 on part with the benefits awarded by many others state governments, including Uttar Pradesh, Punjab and Madhya Pradesh.

It also called upon Kerala Finance Minister K M Mani to allocate funds in the proposed budget to be presented in the assembly on July 8 for the purpose, they added.
