Sheela murder case: Kanakaraj awarded death penalty

Palakkad, Kerala, May 21 : A local court today awarded death penalty to Kanakaraj in the sensational Puthur Sheela murder case in this district.

The Palakkad Additional District and Sessions Court had yesterday acquitted Manikandan, the third accused in the murder case, for lack of evidence.

Kanakaraj was found guilty of various charges, including murder, robbery and attempt of murder.

Sheela, wife of a businessman, was killed in 2010 at her house at Puthur. Her mother Karthiyayini was also attacked by a three-member gang.

There were three accused in the case, including Sampath, the first accused, who later died in police custody. The custodial death of Sampath was currently being investigated by the CBI.
