Vigilance probe into allotment of land to VS's relative

Thiruvananthapuram, Jun 1 : The Congress-led United Democratic Front (UDF) Government today decided to order a vigilance probe into the allegations that a relative of former Chief Minister V S Achuthanandan had been illegally allotted land.

Talking to reporters at the Thiruvanathapuram Press Club after a Cabinet meeting, Chief Minister Oommen Chandy said the Cabinet also decided to cancel the allotment of 2.33 acres of land in Kasaragod District to T K Somanm, an ex-serviceman.

He said the decision to cancel the land allotment was taken as some irregularities were found in the dealings.

Mr Chandy said when only one acre of land could be given, as per the rules, to an ex-serviceman, Soman was given 2.33 acres of land, which was a violation of the rules.

Moreover, the land was given at below the market value. The condition that the land could not be sold for 25 years once it was allotted was also waived in this he case, he said.

The Chief Minister was also given a rousing welcome by the press club.
